I have a 1982 indy pace car that I am planning on listing on ebay. I wanted to decode the trim tag, but I am having a tough time. Here is what it has on it:
C 03A 1FP87 L 129844
26G 16L 16U W
AQ9 CC1
D S 267661
This is what I think I have so far:
26G = pace car interior?
16L exterior paint
16U exterior paint
AQ9 recline seats
CC1 glass t-tops
My car does have 4 wheel disc brakes, but I am not sure why the J65 code is not on the tag?
ANY HELP?

C = 1982
03A = Third month, first week
1FP87 = Chev Camaro 2 door coupe
L = Van Nuys plant
129844 = Production number of the body. Probably won't match the VIN
26G, 16L, 16U, = Paint and color codes (ask your dealer if these are pace car colors). First one should be interior. Other 2 should be exterior.
W = Water based paint
AQ9 = Interior trim
CC1 - T-tops
D S = don't know but may indicate a stripe code
267661 = Probably will match last 6 digits of the VIN code.
Trim tag is only part of the decoding. The complete RPO list can tell a lot more about the car as can engine, tranny and diff codes.

wow that sucks... those RPO sheets are there for a reason basically the only reason to remove one is to hide what the car really is... in this case a "Indy pace car".... without the RPO sheet is no more valuable than a sports coupe of comparable condition...
you could talk to the history restoration people they might be able to tell you what to do

I would not go that far ... after all the car does have the 26G on the trim tag. I am not worried about weather it is a pace car ... that I am sure of, I am just trying to understand the 4 wheel disc brakes ... factory? If so, then it is a very rare car!

There's nothing stopping a previous owner from installing a disk brake differential under the car to make a clone but a 1982 pace car with the J65 rear wheel disk brake option is a very rare car. Without the RPO decal, there's no way to verify it's original.
Get engine codes, transmission codes and differential codes. They will say if they're at least from that model year.
The trim tag is just that, a trim tag. The RPO sticker is what really tells what was originally on the car. Without the RPO sticker, the car could easily be a fake.

6360 Z28 Indy Pace Car replicas were produced and came with special silver and blue paint scheme, special 4-color lower body striping, Indy 500 door decals, special blue cloth/silver vinyl interior, and red pinstripes on the standard Z28 aluminum wheel.

sorry to say but that trim tag is not from a indy pace car... those color codes... are wrong 01U/01L are the only 2 colors ever used on the indy cars they are the "special package" colors....
while you may have decals and what not even an indy interior you dont have the actual package... it could have been ordered with that interior and the owner cloned it...

Guys ... I though you people here would have a clue! The interior and paint codes are CORRECT! Do some reseach before spouting off!
As for the brakes ... yes they could have been upgraded, that is why I am looking into it.

Re: Help me decode please >>>>
no they are not correct... they might be close to the actual color of a pace car... but they are the WRONG CODE it HAS to be 01U/01L that fact along with you NOT HAVING THE ONLY TRUE PROOF OF ITS VALUE, THE RPO SHEET means that your car is about as valuable as any other camaro 5,000 for ABSOLUTLY PERFECT CONDITION
NOT to mention the fact that both of those paint codes represent SILVER... the secondary color should be dark blue which would be 29...
in 2000 they produced a "kit" to tranform your 1982 z28/SC into a pace car... which has lead to alot of people getting ripped off...
as your RPO sheet is gone... you might be very luck to find a actual build sheet under the drivers seat... remember if you find one that it is VERY OLD PAPER be gentle....
without either of those items the RPO or build sheet... you are just out of luck
what are the last 6 digits of your vin... that will be one easy check right there

Re: Help me decode please >>>>
We will have to disagree on this ... I know that the codes are correct along with the 26G code (try disputing that code) ... which is the pace car interior code! I have the car listed on ebay ... check it out, it is all original and the vin is listed.
----------
I guess I'll go ahead and remove the drivers seat and look under the carpet for the build sheet.
