need help with cam
hey,
i have a sbc 350 crate motor. casting # 10066036, has a gm crank, 305 heads and a gm cam. I cant find the cam specs tho. the only thing that is on the cam is gm 605 and google cant find it. does anyone know how to get a part number and get specs on this cam? and im not sure if this is the original cam that came with the motor.
any help appreciated.

Re: need help with cam
No 350ci crate motors that came from GM came with a 305 head.
If the cam is not stamped with a PN or grind number you can measure the lobe lift to get a good idea of the specs. Is the cam out of the motor now?

Re: need help with cam
yea i know no 350 came from gm with 305 heads, this is a crate motor that came in my car but the previous owner doesnt know any about it. it finally blew up so i want to find out if it was anything specail or not.
the cam is out of the motor. the only thing i can find is GM 650 between the lobes. i did a google search and came back with nothing.

About the only thing "special" about it is the care needed to avoid them. Typically poor casting and machining quality, not the one to choose if you have a choice.

Not to be a twit or anything, but...
What difference does it make? That is to say, what might you do differently, according to what it is?
It's a stock cam. GARBAGE. Probably a 929.
Would the difference be, how HARD you throw it in the trash?? Or maybe, to help decide if you should break it in half BEFORE throwing it in the trash, just so somebody doesn't "save" it for you? (like those bolts you no doubt can't seem to get rid of in your bolt collection because they have trashed threads that destroy bolt holes, but somebody "rescued" them for you out of your trash?

Re: need help with cam
Well im new to the cam thing. and i figured if i knew the stock cam, i could maybe find a baseline to learn off of. BUT since i am not sure what cam this is, even tho it does say gm and who knows it could be original to the block.
i might get rid of this block anyways. im getting a new worked 305 with less than 1k on the rebuild for 400, im going to use this until i figure out a nice engine i want to put into my iroc.
