Wsup all, new to the Fourm. I recently picked up a 1991 Camaro Z28, 5.0L, (TPI) w/a Automatic transmission.

Not sure if my explanation will help, but here goes. The problem accrues while im driving. If I put my foot into it (not to the floor) it picks up nice/normal. But when it's floored (at any speed), it will down shift, start to excel and then fall flat on its face.. The motor will rev-up to and bounce around 3500/4000 RPMs (it sounds like Its hit a rev limiter) it feels like a it's either starving for fuel or maybe getting to much fuel The weird thing is it wont do this if I just rev it in park??? If any of you recognize this problem or from my horrible description can help LMK thanks.

 

Get a reading on the fuel pressure under the conditions when it acts up. First guess would be it's low. Most probably culprits for that are clogged fuel filter or weak fuel pump (filter is certainly cheaper and easier to change). Reving it up in the driveway doesn't require as much fuel as accelerating does.

 

The car will act like this 100% of the time. According to the previous owner the fuel Pump was changed approx. 3/5 months ago. Is ther a way I can test the pump? or will low F/P determine that. I just changed the fuel filter yesterday. Get this, I broke the first bold loose and it bled air for about 6/7 seconds??? End result......it did not fix it.
