Windage tray / pan
Windage tray mounted on main caps or built into the oil pan.
Any advantages either way?
I am thinking a pan mounted windage tray would be an easier install.

Re: Windage tray / pan
Yea easier to install but I think less effective.
I thought the screen on the pan was referred to as being a different part. Oil pan screen or something, whereas the screen on the main caps is indeed a "windage tray".
Most people on here think the typical windage tray does very little and isn't worth installing. However there are a few members (one that I know of) that sings the praise of the miloden diamond style scraper (the $90 one, not the typical $30 slotted ones). Apparently he's seen dyno proof of 10HP or something.

The 90 dollar one is the one I'm running. Think the benefits came into play starting around the 6,000 rpm range. The flat louvered one didn't do much at all but it did help.

Speedway has a knockoff copy of the high dollar Miloden windage tray for $35.00 and that is the one I'm running.

Re: Windage tray / pan
Is that Speedway one a copy of the diamond stripper tray? If a guy can gain a couple of HP for that price it sounds like a deal.
I won't be spinning past 6K, but I have read that on testing of a 400 SBC, they started to see effects at only 4K. This may have been moreso due to a crank scraper though... be adding that too.
Spending a little more to get some thing that works is definetly worth it to me, I just hate buying things that don't meet up to their sales promotion.

There is horsepower in oil. Yes it is. I also when with the 6 qt oil pan to help remove the oil away from the crankshaft. I'm only putting 4 quarts in it and of course oil for the filter.

Re: Windage tray / pan
OK, I'm going with a windage tray.
For mounting, I'll be changing from the current main bolts to the tray install kit, which provides a stud/nut type mounting of the main cap. When switching from the main bolts to these studs do I need to get an align hone of the main caps done, or can I just check and ensure main clearances are still good?

Haha.. Thanks for the link. (Those aren't adjustable though.)
But what if I used the Miloden mounts, then can I go the extra mile and get an align hone. These would be the same as replacing bolts with studs would they not.
