Strange problem
I am having a few problems with my car I am sorting through
as seen in this post:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...rich-post.html
It is running rich and stumbles when i try to rev it.
75% of the time it is blowing bluish smoke.
There was no oil on the plugs I pulled, and it isn't losing oil on the dipstick.
Plus the smoke wreaks of rich exhaust.
Finally my question is: I thought blue smoke meant oil burning and black was rich exhaust.
My other question is, can a bad cat conv cause a rich condition?

Re: Strange problem
No.
Sounds to me like you have defective injectors... a leaky one or 2.
If you still have the stock ones (Multec), throw them in the trash; get yourself the Frod (Bosch, actually) pink top ones. Like these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/22-5L...QQcmdZViewItem Soak them in lacquer thinner for a couple of days before you put them in.

Re: Strange problem
Lacquer thinner is a very strong solvent. I've mainly seen it used to clean adhesives and stains like ink on metals. Make sure the plastic on the injectors isnt touching the lacquer or it will get destroyed. Stand the injectors upright, if you're going to do this.

Re: Strange problem
The materials the injectors are made out of do not care about the thinner. It does not harm them; it only eats the gunk out of them.
They need the screens inside them cleaned, as well as the pintle or disc or whatever valves.
Immerse them fully.

Re: Strange problem
Sofa,
Forgive my ignorance, I assume that is only for a used set correct?
and
How long should I wait to see pressure drop on a leak test?
and
I am confused as to which is the proper #/per rating for an L98. 22 or 24. I find both on searches on this board and online.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Strange problem
Stock is 22 lbs/hr. Lots of people use 24s, which work OK when other mods to the engine have been done that allow in more air. More air = more fule needed.
Not sure what you're asking about a used set... but if it's only used ones need cleaned, then the answer would be yes.
I'd expect to see a pressure drop more or less immediately if you have leaky ones. Shouldn't lose more than a psi or 2 per hour.

Re: Strange problem
Ok thanks. That has got to be the problem. Thank you for the direction. I will report my findings when I get a chance to get back at it.

Re: Strange problem
I put this on the TPI board as well.
I started the car yesterday and it ran great. good idle, no more hesitation or stumbling. Drove it and it ran good. Started it again later and still good. just a very slight hesitation and idle was searching about 300-400 RPM. But for the most part it was great. No more blue smoke, and when I put it in Field Service Mode it no longer registered that it was running rich.
I didn't do anything other than TRY to test the fuel pressure. Evidentally my guages fitting is too large. It has worked before but been a headache to get on the schrader valve. Now it just won't go.
I have no idea why the car is right now. I am still going to do a leaky injector test, does anyone have a recommendation on which FP test guage kit to get?
