So there I was in some unknown neighborhood in the middle of the street with my hazards on trying to get the car to start again! I checked to see if it was the ecm/fuel pump fuse by the battery but it was intact. The fuel injector fuse on the other hand was shot; the previous owner ran one of the #8 fuel injector wires through the firewall and wrapped it around one prong from the fuse, why he did it I have no clue ! The reason I mention this is because when I found the fuse shot, I quickly thought it was no biggie...all I had to do was put in another fuse and im good to go! wrong! Once I put in another fuse and rewrapped the wire on one of the prongs, I plugged it in, cranked the car and a plume of white smoke suddenly shot out of the fuse panel as well as the wire insulation was toast!; I quickly tried to remove the wire and fuse but got a painful burn on my fingers instead from the wire still bieng hot! I then tried putting in a 30 amp fuse and cranked the the car again but it blew in a snap as well ! Luckily someone came to help me push it to the side of the road but unfortunately had to leave the car there too .. good thing theres an auto electric shop near my house and ill definately be taking it there tomorrow! In the meantime, anyone know why it kept blowing the fuses like that? Thanks again for the info!
Alright, putting a higher amp fuse on a circuit intended for a lower amp is a VERY big no-no. A friend of mine had a problem with his 240sx over the summer. The fuel pump fuse kept blowing. After two weeks, of messign around swappoing fuel pumps and pushing the car for 4 blocks. I removed the battery to inspect the ignition relay. Low and behold, the idiot placed the battery on a very distinct yellow wire that cut through the insulation and was grounding out on the battery tray. Why did I tell that story you ask? You may have a short to ground somewhere along the line. Inspect all of your wires. And please, dont get hurt.

Re: It just had to happen on thanksgiving!!!!!

Well first I replaced the fuse with a correct amperage one rated at 10 amps which is the one that caused all that smoke....I then replaced it with a 30 amps onw which blew up too! Its strange how the car shut off on me the exact same way like it did on thanksgiving coming home from work except it was the fuel injector fuse that blew ! I will definatley check the wires around the battery! Thanks for the advice man!

Re: It just had to happen on thanksgiving!!!!!

Update Well the shorting problem is now solved and I didnt even have to leave the car at the shop, not to mention the "repair" was only $10! I had my brother pull me in his '87 honda accord (I know its embarrassing lol) to the shop which was about 2 blocks away and explained to the technician my issue! He took a look at It and turns out that the wire which runs from #8 injector into the fuse thru the firewall had the insulation cut from the sharp opening which caused it to short against the metal! All I ended up paying for was a piece of insulation tubing that the dude installed on the cut section of the wire and the car fired right up when I cranked it! Ill admit though its idling and running like s*** and it also appears to have developed a passenger's side header leak but its running ! I really appreciate the help you guys gave me because without it, I wouldn't of known where and what to look for! So thanks alot for that guys! TGO is the s***!!!

Glad to hear you fixed it! Try to prevent wires from rubbing against metal, It'll eventually cut the insulation and ground out on the metal.

Thanks man Ill keep that in mind from now on! I aslo forgot to mention that the technician at the shop told me that the reason for the wire bieng ran thru the firewall to the fuse panel might be becuase the ecm is not powering that fuel injector....is this true?
