MSD Digital HEI Module pn 83645 installation help?

I'm replacing my stock ignition moducle with this MSD one. My main problem is that the stock plugs for the module are more smaller metal tabs and the aftermarket module is only two slightly larger tabs. What wiring needs to be changed? What do the plugs connect to at the other end and what are they for? Please help.

You need a 7-pin module. As far as I know, MSD doesn't make one.

Re: MSD Digital HEI Module pn 83645 installation help?

are you kidding. Summit said that that piece would work with the stock distributor. What is the difference between 4 pin and 7 pin?

What are the pins on the stock module used for? I'm talking about the 5 that connect on the inside of the distributor. I'd probably be less frustrated if i understood this more.

4-pin = pre-computer HEI

7-pin = computer-controlled

yeah but none of those have rev limiters like the MSD one. Are you sure theres no way it will work with my car. What does the computer actually control.

Re: MSD Digital HEI Module pn 83645 installation help?

If you have a computer-controlled HEI, you already have a rev limiter. Whether you want it, or know it, or not.

For that matter, if you have the LG4, it acts as its own rev limiter. It has PLENTY of features that will protect it from ever producing useful power at any RPM that would risk purely RPM-generated damage to anything.

Yes I am sure the non-computer module will not work with your computerized LG4.

Get parts that fit your car and don't worry about the buzzwords that people with heavily modded cars have.

The computer controls fuel mixture and ignition timing, primarily; also, the EGR and AIR systems, and the TCC lockup in auto cars.

Re: MSD Digital HEI Module pn 83645 installation help?

Wow, this engine is a pain in my @$$. When i mean rev limiter, i wanted it to cut off ignition at 5,000, redline. I have over reved it way too many times already with fish tails and burnouts. I wanna be able to lay on the throttle and have it sputter at redline. A real rev limiter. Not just an engine with such a low amount of power that it can't get past 6,000. haha.

You can get an ignition box with a rev limiter that will hook up to the computer distributor. Of course, it will cost a lot more than a module.

o yeah i know. I don't believe that know one makes an rev limiter that plugs in between the computer and the module.

I'm more surprised that there's any module with a rev limiter in it.
