What I am asking is will any LT1 starter fit. I know that the LT1's cam in more than just the camaro/firebird. What about one from a cop car or Roadmaster?

I know that the 93-94 f-body has the same bolts as the L98.
The 95-97 have different bolts than the L98. Right?

What year Vette starter do I look for?

I found a place that has them for $65 from a vette, but he said 89-95 model.
Another place has them for $35 but it might be from a Impala or Roadmaster.

I just want to know the facts before I buy one.

Also, Didnt you guys say to stay away from the LT1 starters on Ebay?

Any advantages between the vette starter and the other LT1 starters? I know that the vette one is even smaller than the others.

I can get a Lifetime warranty L98 starter for $45, but I can upgrade and get a used LT1 for about the same price. If it goes out, I can always have it rebuilt. A new one is like $150.

LT1 starter is smaller, but its also a gear reduction starter - so its also more powerful. Get the LT1 starter if you can, you won't regret it.

I doubt the Corvette starter is any different from the others.

I thought I read here on the board that the vette starter was smaller than the LT1 and that it was a gear reduction starter not the LT1. Im guessing it was the LT4 starter.

I will deffinatly be getting one or the other.

LT4 starter might be different, but I doubt it. They are both gear reduction starters.

I guess I will just be getting whatever they have at the time. Either one will work. I just need more room because of heat soak. Plus my starter is going south on a good day.

The LT1 starter with a Optima battery and I shouldnt have any problems.

Well guys, I stopped by the local yard today and all they had was a starter from a 89 vette.

The solenoid is on the bottom. Is this starter going to work? I have LT headers, is it going to have clearance issues?

LT1 starters are NOT all the same. The Vettes got the compact gear-reduction starter. B-bodies and F-bodies did not. I'd pay the extra for the Vette starter just to get the cool sound it makes

I ended up getting the 89 vette starter. I beleive it is the "Nippondenso" style.

Is anyone running this style? If I remember correctly, all mini starters are based on either the Hytichi <---spelling or the "denso". Am I correct?

an 89 starter is just like any other, it won't be LT1 style. You need 92+ vette to get an LT1 style which is much smaller looking than the pic you posted.

I would like to see a pic of the 89 vette style and the Lt1 side by side to compare. Although the 89 style isnt as small as the LT1, it still should be a good upgrade right?

I finally got around to installing the vette starter.

Looks like I am going to have to take off the header and massage one of the tubes. The motor itself hits one of the primary tubes. Not much, but I cant have it laying on the header.

Im running Hedman LT's. Has anyone else ran into this problem?

Would I be better off selling this starter and getting a regular LT1 starter?

I have an LT1 starter off evilbay, Eldabrock (sp?) headers, optima battery. All has been on for 6months or so. Zero compatibly issues.

All LT1's use the same number of tooth flywheel(153 tooth) whether it's a Roadmaster, Caprice Classic, Caprice, Z28, Ram Air, All autos and Manuals have the same number of teeth. I bought mine From Autozone for 149.00 lifetime warranty

Thought I would revive an old thread since I had to go through them recently to select a new starter for my 383. I was using my old OEM that came with my 1991 LB9 engine. Here's what I found that would fit the small block:

The Corvette models are different than the F-Body/Caprice&Impala. However, they are ALL offset gear reduction. It will fit automatic or manual 153 teeth.

I got the #3371023 because it was the cheapest and most recent model. Also, it was a NEW unit, not remanufactured, and came with new bolts. It installed under 30 minutes (with Hoist!) and cranked like a charm. Much smaller than OEM. It does have a more modern sound, kinda like a motorcycle. I absolutely love it. All my problems of long cranking while cold are gone. The old OEM starter was taking 6-7 seconds to get the engine to over 300 rpm when cold. That was delaying the ECM from activating the injectors. The old starter came out without having to undo the exhaust Y pipe... Was probably lucky! BTW my 383 has 9.7:1 compression.
