The LT1 Corvette starter is smaller, lighter, more powerful, and cheaper than the standard F and B body LT1 starter.

You should also be able to use a Hitachi ministarter with out any problems. More torque and cheaper than stock.

So you're saying that if I need a starter for my run-o-the-mill 350 sbc I should ask for a 95 Vette starter? It will be cheaper and lighter?

Run o the mill SBC, No. Those are still dirt cheap everywhere. If you need a replacment for an LT1 starter, then the Vette is cheaper.

Gear reduction means that in the starter, the electric motor spins fast, but the starter drive gear is reduced in speed. The advantage of this is you get the same, or more torque from the starter with a smaller electric motor, giving you a smaller and lighter starter VS a standard one.

No, only the corvettes(Y bodies) got the gear reduction, all others, the F, B, and D bodys, have the standard non-gear reduction LT1 starter.

I beg to differ Hawk, the starter on my LT1 is a gear reduction mini-starter.

Then you've already got the Vette starter on your car.
