How is the summit one? I want a good one and it better last thins time. The last 1 lasted a year, and the one before only lasted a month. I would like it to be affordable though.

I use one of these and have no problems cranking over my 13:1 540 engine. I had one of those cheap ones and it never lasted 2 years.

Probably about 5 years now. You get what you pay for.
I usually don't argue about parts for my race car. If I need it bad enough and I know it will last, I pay the extra cost without asking.
I'm putting some new bearings into my engine over the winter. I called up the local speed shop and they quoted me a price. I just replied "how long till they arrive?"

Re: What is a good High Torque Mini Starter?
cool, I am interested. Will it work with my car or will I have to modify wires? I need the one where the shaft shoots out.
----------
Also, I noticed it said recommended for 18:1 Compression, I am running alot lower.

Re: What is a good High Torque Mini Starter?
I had a mini starter from procomp, but I cheaped on it through ebay and it went out after about 3 months. I just put a starter for an LT1 in my car and like it a lot more. Got it from autozone for $150 and got a $30 back from the core charge.

Re: What is a good High Torque Mini Starter?
It did in my car with the T56 but I couldn't tell you if it would in a stock drivetrain. I believe it would I think they are both 153 tooth flywheels, might have to do a search on that.

Re: What is a good High Torque Mini Starter?
The 93-94 LT1 starters are a direct bolt-in. The 95-newer ones require slightly different length bolts to work. Any of them work perfectly on our motors though, automatic or standard trans. The quality of them is probably far superior to about 90% of the mini starters out there, except for the really high dollar ones. Like Stephen 87 said, you get what you pay for. Since the LT1 starters are made for production vehicles, they have to be pretty reliable. Plus, they're about the same size as a mini starter, and they're gear reduction as well.

Bullydawg, I have been running the hitachi mini starter on my camaro for about a year before I decommisioned the car for the rebuild, always fired my car right up, part number psl-100
direct bolt in and lots of adjustability if you desire.

I am thinking about a stock GM LT1 Starter. They look different, will they work though, direct bolt it?

Re: What is a good High Torque Mini Starter?
you could buy a stock lt1 starter, or the high torque hitachi I mentioned above which is cheaper and better.

Re: What is a good High Torque Mini Starter?
I've heard nothing but good things about the hitachi starters. The LT1 starter has a recessed shaft that shoots out. I didn't have to modify any wires with my starter, but when switching to a mini starter there is the possibility you might have to extend the wires, mine just barely made it to the terminals.

I put the Proform mini-starter in my Monte Carlo about 5 years ago after frying the stock starter (too close to headers). I have had NO problems with this starter although I don't drive over 2.5k per year.
