High Performance GTA
How do I know whether I have a High Performance GTA? I was asked at the parts store when trying to get brake/bearing parts and I have no idea how I can find this out. Help!

Re: High Performance GTA
Never heard of a "high performance" GTA.
Maybe they're asking about the WS6 suspension
Or maybe if you have the L98 350 engine
Or possibly the Firehawk
Or maybe you should just go to a different parts store.

being the, "GTA" was Pontiac's top line sports car it is high performance everything. I understand the GTA's had all the go fast goodies.

Re: High Performance GTA
"High performance" refers to the 1LE brakes.
If your car has aluminum calipers on the front, it has the "high performance" brake option. Don't get your hopes up. There were only 4 1LE cars in 88, and I don't think any of them were GTAs although I could easily be wrong about that.
If it has cast-iron calipers on 10½" rotors on the front, it has the normal brake option.

Not all the go fast goodies.
The GTA's just had more "standard" options
A lot of the GTA's came with the 305 i/o of the 350 as well.

Re: High Performance GTA
As was said, above, in all likelyhood you DON'T have the "high performance" brakes- whatever they were. If it's go an automatic trans it was the L98 350 TPI motor (no 305 TPIs automatics offered that year in the GTA that I'm aware of). If it's got a 5-speed that was the 305 TPI, however. Only 2 engine/tranny combos that were offered. All GTAs had the WS6 suspension.

All,
Thanks for the info. I do have the cast iron calipers in the front. As a side note my GTA is a 305 TPI with a 4 spd automatic tranny standard from the factory. Again, thanks for all the responses...it has helped me figure out what I need!

Re: High Performance GTA
Another question here. What are the differences between the front High Performance brakes and the non-High Performance brakes? I had originally made the mistake of buying the High Perf. stuff. How much would it make a difference to put HP on a non-HP car?
