Re: Whats a good chip for my car?

before you think about a "chip" i would think twice about getting the edelbrock manifold and runners. for a 5.0L i would suggest staying with the stock system, as it would help with the torque that the 5.0 does not have, with a 5.7L i would say go for the edelbrock manifold and runner. but thats just my personal opinion, im sure others would think otherwise.

as for the headers and the catback exhaust system... go for it, its a good upgrade. but get something other than edelbrock headers, those are garbage T.E.S.

Alright cool. I want more Tq and Hp what would you Recoment for the 305 T.P.I? Im looking to get around 250-275 i have a 1500$ limit as of right now.
Also why would the eldebrock runners and intake manifold not be good for the 305?

Re: Whats a good chip for my car?

The runners and manifold are fine for a 305, its just the 305 isnt as airflow limited by the stock stuff as the 350 is. But their headers are garbage. Get the Hooker 2055's instead, or step up to Dyno Don's 1 3/4" headers.
Also, all the chips you get off the shelf like Hypertech or JET are junk on our cars. They only add a few degrees of timing at wide open throttle, and turn the fans on sooner. You can accomplish the same thing with a lower temp fan switch and turning the distributor up a few degrees.

Do your own chip burning. It'll open a whole new world of performance possibilities.
Buying "custom" chips is a waste.

Re: Whats a good chip for my car?

why dont you find a good 350 to drop in instead with all your TPI stuff on it from your 305 then all you have to do is get the right chip for your PCM and a few sensors i think thats all you need?? then put headers and a catback on that. why waste your money on the 305 when you can get more power from a 350 and youll have a better ground to start with when you wanna modify the engine more. just a thought

oh one more thing have you ever thought about rear end gears? you should look into them also

Re: Whats a good chip for my car?

I would not waste the money on the Edelbrock intake and runners if you have a stock or mild 305 or a 350 with under 300HP. Unless you want it to look cool. Getting your stock TPI ported and gasket matched will give you about the same gains as the aftermarket intake and runners for under 300HP. Stay away from the Edelbrock headers get Hooker 2055 or SLPs. Doing a major tune up will also give you some good HP gains.
