Re: 305 eliminator
I was at the local drag strip and i saw him run a 10.9. I asked him what was under the hood and he said it was just a stock 305 eliminator, with the stock quadrajet.

Re: 305 eliminator
It's not stock, it's a stock eliminator. There are stringent rules on what isn't allowed to be modified, but they leave considerable room for creativity. For example, the rules say that only cams with stock lift may be used but nothing is said about duration. That leads to some interesting cam profiles.

Re: 305 eliminator
He is on dragtimes.com he didnt list any cam specs. He does say its the stock q-jet. I was unaware of the potential of a q-jet, could he have ported it or somthing?

Re: 305 eliminator
Mod305 is a member on here who competes in stock eliminator. 10.x times as well.
"Stock" 305, ie stock bore (or slight overbore) and stroke, stock lift cam (crazy, top secret duration), no port work on the heads, stock valve size etc etc.
And yea, nothing wrong with a q-jet. 750cfm is enough to go that fast, it might be slightly restricted, but nothing to write home about.

I did'nt know the q-jet flowed that well. I've seen a few people swap thier q-jet for an edlebrock 600 but what would be the point?

"Stock q-jet" is a bit of a stretch as well. It doesn't have to be computer control, and the things they do to those carbs are as secret as the cam profile.

how is that possible to go 10's with that "stock" cammed only 305?? I'm assuming these are VERY gutted racecars that proby weight 2800 lbs or so, maybe less
IF not, then what is everyone doin wrong? I dont know many fast 305's on here other a than a select few and some of them run heads/intake/etc

Re: 305 eliminator
Anyone can do the same things that are done to a stock eliminator car and get the same result, which is a dedicated race-only car which is in no way streetable.

Re: 305 eliminator
He was around 3000lbs and definately had some custom made cam. It was 1/4. Heads and intake were stock.http://www.dragtimes.com/Chevrolet-C...slip-4952.html
