What cam to use? Please help!

What cam would you guys recommend for a 383 SBC? I"m looking for the largest "streetable" cam that would work with a 383 with 10.5:1 compression with a carb. I'm going to be using an automatic tranny with the appropriate stall converter. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Re: What cam to use? Please help!

Well I'm just starting this project so everything can be worked around. The short block (except the cam) is the only thing I'm certain about (I know I want a 383). I know I would like to keep the compression ration around 10.5:1. I can make sure the heads are set up to accommodate whatever cam I decide on. I just know I want it big. Any thoughts?

My personal choice (for a factory roller block) was http://store.summitracing.com/partde...8&autoview=sku

Comp XR276HR-10.. As flaming-ford pointed out, don't over cam it.

I agree that's why I'm askig you guys who may be more knowledgable about cams then I am. I don't fully understand all the differant ratios and degrees. That's why I'm lookin for advice. Thanks for your reply and I definately look into this cam. If anyone else has any thoughts on this i would love to hear them. Thanks again!
