how aggressive is this cam?

so I got my car back last fall from having a whole new drive train put in it. the motor is a 383 with TrickFlo heads, HSR, and cam with the following specs: 520 intake 532 exhaust with a 112 centerline 224 intake duration and 235 exhaust duration. my question is, how aggressive is this cam for a street car? it idles a littles ok, but it is a fast idle. I am about to begin tuning and just curious for thoughts on what I am in for when tuning the idle. thanks.

Re: how aggressive is this cam?

I assume thats a hydraulic roller cam? Who makes that cam, i havent seen anything with thsoe specs?

Either way its not a really aggressive cam for a 383 HSS car. I'd say its a good street strip cam. the motor i'm building will be using a bigger stick than that with lots more overlap and i'm thinking i could be in for some long tuning sessions with this setup Gonna be rough to get it all down but i think its doable.
Your cam should work out well. Its very tuneable. Thing is tho i have MAF system and you have speed density right? That could be abit more challenging as i dont know much about SD. It is more finicky but its possible to run that cam just fine. Many ppl have done similar cams before.

Re: how aggressive is this cam?

thats what I was hoping to hear. cams are still a "black voodoo" thing to me. that is sad as the EFI tuning thing seems to make a lot of sense. I am learning but I just wasn't sure how aggressive it really was. sounds good though hahahahaha

Re: how aggressive is this cam?

yeah the more you learn about the tuning part the less aggressive cams get to you you'll beablel to tune bigger and badder setups to a point the ecm cant handle it anymore..... i'm just somewhat beginning myself. I've played with bolt on L98's and now i'm jumping to a cammed 383 so we'll see how it goes. I got an idea what to do from reading the threads in DIY Prom, so i suggest you go there to get an idea whats goin on

Re: how aggressive is this cam?

Curtis, its not that bad. A LT4 hotcam is 218/228, so its not that much larger or aggressive considering you are on a 383. The HSR should like that cam.

Re: how aggressive is this cam?

Doesn't seem too particularly aggressive..... it's about like a Comp XR276, except with 1.6 rockers, and the computer-compatible nitrous version of it. See this cam right here.

Shouldn't be too terribly difficult to tune, I wouldn't think.

I see you're from Crete.... I actually have family there, if they haven't all moved away. Haven't heard from any of em for a couple of years. Pretty small world, eh??

Did you live in illinois, or just family?

I did, at one time.... AFAIK a few family members still live around there.
