Tpi swap onto lg4 base?

After browsing through the boards i came to wonder what a tpi intake setup would do on a lg4 base with the dished pistons(8.5 comp) gay cam ect. . I imagine it would prolly suck power wise and be a waste of time due to all the work. But i currently have both the Lb9 isnt running atm but the other is. F/i on my ghetto ride($150 83 firebird) would be funny and give me something to do while i search for a low priced l98 or lt1 for my T/a .

The quality of the head is basically the same. I guess the 86 tpi would have had 416s, right? Anyway, you would lose some compression and the cam sucks. If you are going as far as the intake though, score yourself a good used lt1 cam, and stick it in at the same time. I imagine it would run as good as a lb9.

Prty much figured all that. Not sure on the Lt1 cam though havent priced one out money is VERY limited. but if i could get one cheap i might just borrow the exhaust frm the TPI and stick with the old holley carb the pervious owner stuck on there. Dont know really just lookin for mods that i can actually do while i search for another job.

LT1 cams go for between 25 and 40 dollars on ebay.

Re: Tpi swap onto lg4 base?

his LG-4 should be a flat tappet cam ... right? So a LT-1 wont work. Just find a L-69 profile ... If your LG-4 is a 87 block didn't they have flatops and have 9.5 compression anyways and a roller cam? Or is this a early LG-4?

I dont think i would go for a l69 cam, i would look for something a little better. Since its flat tappet, best to use a new cam. You can reuse a flat tappet with new lifters, or with the originals if they are kept in order with the cam lobes. But, IMO, its not worth. Maybe look at the comp cams xe series, like the most mild? l
