kick out starter bendix?

My engine is on the stand now. I want to see if my starter is aligned right.
How do I hotwire the starter to just get it to kick out the bendix but not turn over?

I have a big stud for power
and two small studs for ?!???.

I've done this before but I can't for the life of me remember which one I had to jumper.

Thanks

Re: kick out starter bendix?

I'm just using my 10A battery charger, so it doesn't have enough snap to do too much damage. I'm hooking negative to the block, then setting power on each one.
None seemed to kick out the bendix.... I'll try that one again here..

Re: kick out starter bendix?

you could always remove the solenoid and manually move the bendix
