Eliminating AIR system. Got a question
Okay I took out basically all of my air system except for the tubes that connect to the exhaust manifolds. My AIR pump was seized so I figured what was the point of keeping all that extra clutter and weight in my engine bay. Anyways my question is, is there anyways to remove the hard lines for the AIR system that connect to the exhaust manifolds? I know I could just buy new headers, but I'm pretty broke at the moment. So does anyone know what sized bolts I would need to buy to plug up the wholes that the hard lines screw into? Or would that be some sort of a horrible idea? If so any other suggestions on how to do it? I just want as much of the clutter out of the engine compartment as possible. From what I can tell it's a Bone stock carbed 305 1984 Camaro Z28. Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

Im not sure about what you asked, but can you post pics of how you did the lines for the air stuff? and what it looks like without it in there. thanks

Re: Eliminating AIR system. Got a question
I'm just asking how I can get the hard lines for the air system off the exhaust manifolds without actually replacing them with headers. I know headers are a better choice but for now out of my budget.
Anyways yeah I can snap some pictures of it tomorrow. And Basically how I did it was I removed all of the clamps that held the hoses on, removed those, took out the air pump, and the silencer, then removed the vacuum lines from the AIR soleniod and capped them off, then just unplugged the electrical connector from the solenoid and removed it from the car.
I took it out on the express way for a roughly 60 mile drive and it didn't set a check engine code in the Z, pretty sure it doesn't have a code for the AIR system though. And gas mileage seems to be the same. Yet again since it wasn't hooked up before it shouldn't have affected my gas mileage. lol

Do you know where I'd be able to get those 1/4 inch pipe caps? The catalytic converter pipe cap I wouldn't need since my car has no cat.

air diverter valve? What is it and where would it be? Then I can let you know if I had it. I never really learned much of anything about the air system because it didn't work when i got the car.

It's hard to make it out for sure in that picture. But yeah I'm pretty sure I had one on my car.

Don't cut the tubes. Unscrew them (the retaining nut collars) and just plug the manifolds with short bolts. Sell the tubes. Always somebody looking for them. I know a guy wanting one of mine, but I'm saving mine in case I ever fail inspection for not having them. Put them on, pass inspection, pull them back off.

Yeah i'm not planning on cutting them. If I can just get them to un bolt I'll take them off as a whole unit. I got 4 of the 1/4 inch pipe plugs today because thats all they had. I'll get the rest after I get the half i have the plugs for done.

Re: Eliminating AIR system. Got a question
I still haven't tried to remove any of the hard lines yet due to bad weather. But I'll try to get some pics of the bay with it all removed when I get home. I didn't really have to cap much off, just the vacuum lines(only one or 2) going to the diverter valve.

Here's one pic of it from today. Hardlines still attached and taped off to avoid annoying noises. Hopefully trying to knock one of those out tomorrow.

Re: Eliminating AIR system. Got a question
yup just get the plugs and pit em in maybe some thread tape but not sure ut would take the heat too well never tried. I removed the air from two of these and never really had any ill effects and it looks alot better and easier to change plugs too.

Re: Eliminating AIR system. Got a question
Well mine didn't have anything that looked just like that. I had something that I believe did a similar job though. And once it's all unhooked and removedyou shouldn't need that anymore and just remove the lines that are no longer hooked to anything, and plug any vacuum lines that went to it with caps. I'll get a pic of what came out of my car after work if I remember.
