how much hp for a vortec 327

I need a guess on HP for a carbed 9 to 1 compression 327 with vortec heads. It will use a cam with 204*,214* .420",.442".

Re: how much hp for a vortec 327

Maybe 225HP if you're lucky. Probably more torque then that though, 300ftlbs. That compression, heads, and cam and displacement should be able to sneak up to 300fltbs.

That's a really mild cam, mild compression and tame cubes. Good S-10 "get around town" type of engine. Towing your light boat or something...

DD2k reports the following:
316hp @ 5000rpm and 370ft-lbs @ 3500rpm

So correct for about 10% loss from your accessories:
284hp @ 5000rpm and 333ft-lbs @ 3500rpm at the flywheel
About 30hp better then a stock Vortec 350.

Re: how much hp for a vortec 327

Why so little compression? Those heads LOVE compression - boost your power and fuel economy at the same time. Kick it up to 9.75 or 10:1 and get a slightly bigger cam and you'd be way better off. Even with a still reasonably tame cam, like the LT4 stock or LT4 hotcam or something similar in size (between 210-220* duration at .050) and you'd do well.

With the combo you listed, 250hp would be optimistic. Change what I suggested and 300hp would be an safe bet.

About 30hp better then a stock Vortec 350.
I would have to argue that one. I know DD is fancy shiny program, but with less cubes and a lesser cam, i'd have a tough time thinking it would make more HP. Less cam meaning a mild flat tappet, vs a peanut roller

The difference comes mainly from the headers. Go back to stock manifolds and the 327 sits at 262hp and 333ft-lbs, which adjusts to 236hp and 300ft-lbs.

FWIW DD simulates both the TBI 350 and Vortec 350 within a couple hp and tq. So I'd say it's close enough.

Bing, there we go.
You assume headers though?

Re: how much hp for a vortec 327

I should have said it will have 1 5/8 longtube headers. I was thinking it would make around 260HP. The cam choice is mild but from what I remember seeing a stock vortec 350 has a milder cam. I can get an extra half point of compression very easily but I dont want to go any higher.
