PLease help. Camaro barley running!

OK I have a 1983 Camaro berlinetta. Its the v8 305 with auto transmission. It has new exhaust, starter, alternator, and battery. Its been having problems since i got it. I just replaces the 83 distributor with a 78. and the original 83 carb with one from 77. I took it to my uncles shop and he said the problem was the carburetor from 83 were crap because they had fuel injector tehnologies so he put on my 77 carb which is on it now. but it is still doing the same thing.

It is very hard to start i have to keep pumping the gas while its running in idle to keep her alive. and it helps to keep the choke closed untill it gets warmed up. once is been running for about 5 minutes it runs fine in idle. but then after awhile it will just bog out and die once its been runniing in idle about 10 minutes. If you have any experience with these cars or have had a problem like this please chime in. I really want to get this car running right.

Also. When I drove it once, which was a bad idea cuz it broke down, It would bog down when I pushed the throttle, and when i slightly pressed down the gas it would be VERY sluggish.

but if you already have a new cat, you may want to check your timing. sounds like the timing is set a little low.
also, leave your choke open!

Was the carburetor you removed a computer controlled carb? More than likely it was and the 77 isnot...if that's the case, that could be be part of your problem.
