what the heck is a seafoam treatment?
Somebody in another thread suggested that my engine needed a "seafoam treatment." What the heck is that?

in noob terms,
its a liquid you put in your gas tank, and cleans all the ****, carbon, etc out of your engine/fuel system.

Re: what the heck is a seafoam treatment?
Is that just the same as any other fuel system treatment like STP, etc.
I have already used both lucas fuel system cleaner and marvel mystery oil in my car.
Or is seafoam a different product or just a specific brand?

seafoam is more the 'kick in the *****' compared to stp and the others.. its not a formula based on the other compared products.. seafoam is seafoam.

Re: what the heck is a seafoam treatment?
Seafoam is a 100% petroleum product, its not an additive. Put it in your gas tank to clean injectors, pour it into the carb to clean out carbon deposits, put it in your oil 100km before an oil change to really clean out the crud in there.

you can also put it directly in your cylinder via spark plug whole, back on the integra forums that was a way to get all the carbon build up you have in a cylinder, a bout a table spoon is good enough. you can also try using a squirt bottle full of water and spray light mists into the throttle body, not enough to make it turn it off just enough for it to clean the carbon deposits

Re: what the heck is a seafoam treatment?
Unfortunately a b-series motor and a sbc are two totally seperate jobs bro, good luck getting anything up through the spark plug holes, let alone keeping it in. In any case i just treated my motor yesterday for the heck of it, if you run tbi then when your engine is warmed up take off your air cleaner assembly and SLOWLY pour the seafoam down into the throttle body, its gonna sound like your motor just wants to die but if it starts choking and sputtering back up on the can a bit til it levels out, the can says use 1/3 but just use your best judgement based on how bad you think your motor will be, after your done pouring shut it off. Let the car sit for like 5 minutes or more then start it up and watch the smoke show
its pretty fun, first time i did it the smoke came out black, then it turned gray, then just straight smoke that you could tell was just the seafoam burning off, at that point i jus hop in and take it for a spin to get it all out. It definitely made a difference. In doing this i also found out my camaro can blow smoke rings.... its the wide tips on my exhaust but when i revved it a bit and dropped it back to idle 2 or 3 ring just floated out the back.
In short i dont believe in miracle addative that fix things just by being used.
Seafoam has shattered my original belief and now i love the stuff, i also had a seperate encounter with it once before, i had a nasty gas tank when i replaced my fuel pump the first time,all gross and dirty so i ran like 2 cans through the car the next few weeks then the stupid pump locked up cuz it was a cheap part,(or maybe the gunk in my tank had something to do with it) but when i dropped the tank the second time to replace the pump my tank was clean as a whistle. It works, i live by this stuff, except when people use it for a crankcase addative, ive heard waaaayy too many horror stories about that stuff being used wrong and destroying the motor.... i just stick to the throttle body and gas tank treatment
Seriously buy some and do both, youll be glad you spent the $12

Re: what the heck is a seafoam treatment?
well if you use it like crc motorflush as in right before you change your oil just pour 1/3 in the crankcase and let it idle in the drive for 5 mins DO NOT DRIIVE on it. thats the mistake people make, one just says he spun a bearing one said he threw a rod, even if it was something else id rather not take that chance myself. If you use it as a flush then its good, but dont ever treat it as an addative that you drive on because it doesnt have the same viscosity as your oil so that thin film of oil that keeps your motor lubricated has a good chance of dissapearing making metal on metal shearing action, but again that depends on the amount you use
to recap....
flush=good
addative=bad
dont drive it.

I'd like to try it on my 164k mile engine, but I'm scared someone might call the fire dept on me
. I may have to try it at night.

it makes your pistons look like new if you where going to rip the motor apart and check it out. someone put 87 octane in my car and it ran horrible so i put seafoam in and 100 ocatane and ran perfect. my car needs 91+ all the time.
