valve cover make a BIG mess?

ok guys as i posted before about my dipstick issue now i seem to think this might be my issue all along. i drove my car to work today, and oil was dripping off the inspection cover. the oil filter and the driver side block behind the valve cover is "wet" now would a bad gasket make it leak like a siv or is it sumthing else? i thought maybe intake valey but the passenger side behind valve cover and block is dry... any suggestions would be great!

Re: valve cover make a BIG mess?

are you running a mech oil pressure guage? I pinched the line under the valve cover b4.

or a high pressure oil pump pushing oil from under your distributor

ok i looked with a mirror and light the valve cover is dry but my intake rubber gasket is sitting fudged up and its wet. lucky me!would a leaking intake give me a crappy and missing idle, and low oil pressure too? also im gna be fixing it whats the best way to get it to seal properly so i dont run into it again

takje those rubber end pieces and throw them away. That is the reason noone uses them. laydown a nice thick bead of rtv instead.

so dont use the rubber piece in front or rear? and rtv will be enough to seal it?

Re: valve cover make a BIG mess?

yes, its far better than the rubber pieces.pull the manifold clean all your surfaces, put your new intake gaskets on, and run anice thick bead of rtv on the front and back of the block. then get some one to help you sit the intake on and tork it down.

Re: valve cover make a BIG mess?

i usually put a light bead around the water passages. that is enuff to hold the gasket in place..

youll be up in no time..... after you get it torked down, wait awhile before running it. let the rtv cure.couple hours or so.

Re: valve cover make a BIG mess?

if you have your block all painted and pretty. run a piece of tape along the bottom edge of the valley. the rtv is gonna smoosh out a bit when putting the intake on. the tape will catch the rtv and give you a nice clean edge.

i usually let mine set the recomended 24 hrs. its good insurance for all the stuff youll be pulling off if you run it pre-maturly. P.S. the rubber ends are GARBAGE! build 2 "great walls of china" and be done with it.
