Hey all, I have an 84 camaro with the l69 305 5spd std w/ performer intake, holley 600 dp, k&n extreme lid and filter with punched out cat and dynomax muffler. My question is regarding initial and total timing for this engine it is stock except for the bolt-ons that I listed, I'm trying to set it up for the 1/8th mile track. I have a distributor re-curve kit from MSD and have contemplated using 1 blue and 1 silver spring ( I heard this was a good combo) for better response.
Any help guys?????????

put as much as the engine will allow. i run 39 total degres at 3200 rpm on my racecar(400 sbc). if you are not running a computerized car you can crowd it. just make sure it will still start easy. the more timing the more little motors like. if it pings you put to much in and can tear a motor up,so be carefull.

Initial timing 12 degrees BTDC, total 36 degrees, both without vacuum advance hooked up.

You did swap out your computer controlled distributor for an earlier non-computer controlled unit when you swapped on that Holley carb, right?

So are you telling me to leave the vacuum advance unhooked entirely or just for setting intial timing then re-install to the timed vacuum port?? Would this be best for the strip and then I could back it off some and re-install the advace for the street????Originally Posted by five7kid

Just for setting. Some guys disconnect the vacuum for the strip, but it doesn't really hurt anything to keep it connected at all times after you've got it set.Originally Posted by 8t4marinator

Are you just running the stock cam?
It is the stock L69 cam.
