Engine combatibility late 90s 350
Would a late 90s (1999) 350 out of a chevy truck be combatable with Gen 1 heads and stuff? The seller says everything is the same. No casting numbers. I just wanted to make sure before I picked it up. When looking through parts books, most gen 1 heads are dated up to 95. Then again, vortecs heads were late 90s.

Yes your gen 1 heads will work, but you will have to use your gen 1 intake also.

My apologies, this seems to answer my question.

Yeah, that's what I intend to do. Thanks.

What about cams, lifters and timing chains?

I guess it depends on whether it's a vortec motor or not. I believe if it is a vortec motor it will have hyd.roller cam and lifters. I think you can replace them with a hyd. flat tappet cam but not real sure. I'll step aside and let someone else confirm that. Vortec heads are a good head but in stock form you are limited on your valve lift to .470-.480 something like that.

It's just a shortblock. No heads, cam or anything included. It does include the spider stuff for the roller lifters. I am wanting to buy it, throw RHS Vortecs, performer rpm, holley 750 and a comp xtreme 274 (I think) roller version in and go.
I was just a little unsure if the the cams were different or something. Summit lists most of the cams going from 87-95.

How many miles on the shortblock? Are you going to go through the shortblock to freshen it up? Sounds like your on the right track. But I would get the block casting #, and find out what pistons you have in it for your compression ratio and such.

He says it has 66k on it. I was going to clean it up.
