CAMARO STARTERS--THROW ME A BONE!

Brothers, throw me a bone... I am ready to replace my factory starter and need some recomendations.

I have been thinking of going with a powermaster. I even called SUmmit racing to inquiry abou the Power Master 9100. The tech man ask me about the bolt pattern.. (if they are staggered -- if both botls have the same distance from the bellhousing) and about the Flywheel

In truth I could not answer this questions. My car came with an LG-4 engine that I swapped in favor of a 355 engine (CR 10.5:1). The swap was easy and I use most the the parts from the LG-4 (including LG-4 Starter, Bell housing, Flywheel, etc)

The starter has always been a weak, but it work until now, its dead... Good time to get a MUSCLE UP starter.

I dont care about the weight of the started, and care about bolt on installation, power, and reliability. My car has the Edelbrock TES headers.

Any suggestions?

throw me a bone brothers!!!

THanks, Went to the site. They look alot like the PowerMaster, but way cheaper. I wonder if is the same or better quality. How long you got your starter from DB?

DOes any body has experience with the PowerMaster Alternators?

Re: CAMARO STARTERS--THROW ME A BONE!

I have a Powermaster starter on several vehicles- no problems to report.

You can buy starters off ebay in the $50-60 range but they're rebuilds. Powermaster or GMPP is all new parts, which is probably the price difference.

Stock LG4 parts are the smaller 153 tooth flexplate/flywheel. Straight bolt pattern. A popular bolt-in upgrade is a later LT1 gear reduction mini starter (new or rebuilt). Much smaller and lighter than the stock full size starter, but with greater cranking force.

Thanks for the info. There so many choices on the starters. The one listed on the DB website (from above reply to thread) look the same as the powermaster. I just want something that last. Eventhough I re-use the LG-4 Flywheel and Bell Housing, the engine is a 355 10.5:1 Compression Ratio. and I do have headers.

I also heard about the NIPODENSE STARTERS... Hmmm

Re: CAMARO STARTERS--THROW ME A BONE!

Just thought I'd also throw in that the GMPP high torque gear reduction mini starter I have on my Malibu (383 stroker with the larger diameter 168 tooth flexplate, so not directly comparable) has been moved from engine to engine for 10 years. It's a rock-solid piece. Same one that comes with the GMPP 502 and 572 big blocks (small block and big block staters interchange). And it should be considering I paid $180 for it way back then.

It looks externally like the $60 rebuilds they offer on e-bay. I doubt a rebuild would have lasted through the abuse I've thrown at this starter. HOWEVER, I could have replaced it 3 times with a cheap rebuild for the money I spent.

You pays your money and your takes your pick.

Re: CAMARO STARTERS--THROW ME A BONE!

Ok, so I have concluded that my starter solenoid if bad... so I decided to take it off... and then come the problem.. DAMM headers are on the way to take the starter so I have to actually dismount the Y-pipe from the headers to take the starter out... MAN!!!! I am FURIOUS.... Sometimes, Sometimes I wish I never got headers...

Besides my ranting, I have confirmed that my bolt pattern is not staggered. I will purchase a Power Master Startedr.... Any suggestions?

What about the Powermaster 9600 MasterTorque Chevy Starter? ANy exeriences? Look small enough that I would not have to take the Y-pipe out in order to take the starter out (in the future).
