What Part is This?

I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I have no idea what these things are and don't know how to find out.

Re: What Part is This?

I'm bringing this thread back because I believe my ESC may be going bad.

Is the ignition module and the ESC one in the same or are they two different parts? What is the function of the parts in the picture?

Re: What Part is This?

The ESC is part of the ignition module. NON ESC (non comp. controlled) have fewer pinouts.

The ignition module itself can be seen as the switching relay that grounds the coil to collapse the field and deliver the secondary voltage to the wires & plugs.

Re: What Part is This?

Some auto part stores can actually test these, but you may have to search around. I know my local Advance Auto has a module tester, but nobody in the store knows what it is or how its used.....

So, the ignition module is what is shown in the picture? Would it be the right one for my car, and I read that it is located under the distributor cap.

Also, I read the esc module is located on the drivers side firewall.

Correct, the esc module on your car is located behind the brake booster on the firewall. 90-up cars with speed density TPI had the ESC function built into the ECM, but 89-older has it separate on the firewall.
