Give it gas it tries to die
I had a timing problem that was fixed my distributor was 180 out and now it seems like it's missing kind of. If I am easy on the gas it will be fine but if I floor it, it tries to die and won't go anywhere. How can I check for vacuum leaks? Could it be a vacuum leak? How can I check if all the cylinders are firing?
I am going to post a video I just took and I was trying to do a burnout as an example because I couldn't floor it down my driveway but when I give it past quarter throttle it will choke out.

have you put a timing light on it? my guess would be the timing is way off in either direction.

I haven't yet but the thought did cross my mind. I have never used a timing light before

It's hard to start it, I just took it for a drive and all I can go is quarter throttle and I got it up to 80. If it backfires out the carb do I advance or retard the timing and is that counter clockwise or clockwise?

Re: Give it gas it tries to die
my camaro was doing the EXACT same thing. I had massive vaccum leaks, take a small piece of hose, one that you can barely blow through, turn the car on, but on end in your ear and then listen around the edges of the intake manifold for a sort of pisk pisk pisk sound of a small missfire. i had one near the bolt, and then i also had a blown head gasket between cylinder 2 and 4. just replace the gaskets and use lots of sealant. thats all i can tell you. mine runs like a raped ape now (though i just had my starter fry)(grrr). hope i helped

I just took off the distributor cap and got #1 TDC and the rotar is pointing to the right of #1 a little bit now would I turn the distributor counter clockwise to retard the timing? I don't think it's a vacuum leak

Yes turning the distributor clockwise retards the timing. You absolutely NEED a timing light. Driving your car with the timing messed up will destroy your engine unbelievably quick.

Re: Give it gas it tries to die
I had a friend come over and look at my car we figured it's probably 1 of 3 things. Spark plugs, ignition module, or torque convertor. It runs almost fine besides the sound of a miss. I can get on it but when I slam it, it lags before it goes and sometimes it shuts off when I put it in gear.

I'm gonna tell ya one last time... if you don't want to listen then have fun replacing all those parts
YOUR TIMING IS OFF! You already stated that you played with the distributor, without ever using a timing light, therefore your timing is WRONG and is the cause of your problems. You mess with the distributor and are how having textbook symptoms of incorrect timing... I really wonder what it could be?
sorry, not trying to be a smartass but really... think about it.

Re: Give it gas it tries to die
Just for the sake to prove you wrong I had a friend put a timing on it and it is right.. So I really do not know what else it could be, could the ignition module on the distributor cause something like this? It is running rich to

Re: Give it gas it tries to die
you still pretty much discribed my problem to the letter. I took my intake manifold off and my evens head, replaced the gaskets and added lots of sealant then put it back together. runs great. mine was also running rich before, really rich, idk why, but it cleared up after i fixed the vaccum leaks.

Re: Give it gas it tries to die
Lol I find it hard to believe you pulled the distributor and manage to get the timing dead nuts on again when you dropped it back in...
What mark on the tab was your timing at. My car was backfiring out the carb because I mistakenly set it to 0* btdc. Changed it to 12* and runs like no bodys business. I do happen to have that whole intake problem though....
