okay so my 305 v8 "Q-jet" is allmost on the home strech to running. i put in a new carb, battery, alternater, fuel lines, break lines, new battery, new spark plugs, AND NOW when i turn over the engine it will turn over as normal but it dosent like to fire, if i floor the pedal it will spudder and barley run and die out when i let go of the gas, the gas is getting to the carb, i know i have timing issues. so does this sound like a timing issue? or anything eles.
plus ive never timed a engine before if anyone knows a step by step video or website it would be greatly appreitiated

is it possible that i flooded it to? is this what the engine could do when u flood it?

its timing. you need to turn the distributer until it gets better. loosed the crows foot holding the distributor down to the manifold. turn the dist a very little bit at a time and crank it. it sounds like its too retarded and it needs to be advanced, once you get it to dtay running you can slowly turn the dist til it sounds the smoothest.

 

so should i pump the gas at all? because ive been doing that and i get a sneaking suspestion its a bad idea
