Okay, I am a new owner (4 days) of a 91 Camaro RS 305. Anyway I bought the car and it runs strong, but i've been taking care of the general maintenance of the vehicle, such oil change refilling the coolant etc. Well everything runs great until I get on the freeway. After about 5 minutes the engine service light will come on, as soon as i park and shut her off,the next time I restart her it'll be gone. What would be causing this?

 

Pull the codes and see what the computer is complaining about.

 

my bet is on the egr. you need to find out what code you are throwing, i think there is a write up in the tech articals on how to check for codes.

 

yeah, i gotta have my buddy do it at his shop. was just wondering if anyones experienced anything like this.

Also I've spent a couple hours trying to find similar problems and no luck. The guy that owned it before me just replaced the egr valve so it would pass smog, so it has a brand new one

 

You can do it yourself in about a minute with a paperclip.

Sounds like the speed sensor... mine would do that only when it would get into 4th gear. In my case it was the speedometer since it was not working, I fixed that and no more SES lights while driving. good luck

 

my speedometer is broken to, sounds like that is the culprit. i'll pull the codes tomorrow just to be sure

 

Thats probly it. My gear had shifted back inside the tranny. Took the lazy way out, removed the drive shaft used an empty caulking tube with 2 slices down the middle to make it fit in the tail housing and used a hammer to move it back in place

 

yeah i pulled the code and it was 24 "malfunction in the speed circuit" or something like that. I hoping its just a snapped cable tho and not the problem you had
