305 TPI heads on 350 engine ???
305 TPI heads on 350 engine ???
Had these in the shop for a while. Took them from an '89 IROC Z 305 TPI engine. They look to have small chambers. Am building a 350 carbureted engine with dish top pistons. Was wondering if anybody had tried using a set of these with good or bad results.

Re: 305 TPI heads on 350 engine ???
I've done the 305 heads on a dished-piston 350 thing before, and while it's not ideal, there's nothing to cause problems except for compression ratio. I was using a stock '78 shortblock, and '83 L69 heads. I figured about 9.8:1, and it was in Reno, NV, in the summertime, I had detonation with just 26 total degrees of advance at cruise when I heard it. I'd driven it like that to South Carolina and back without hearing any.
Using an RV cam like the Edelbrock Performer 2102 might have helped. I was using the '78 cam and worn (stretched) timing chain. Also, I was running 1800 rpm at 65 mph, but I think I was running more like 55. I shifted down to third, and the next day, the car was totalled. Oh well.
You can get dished 350 pistons with a dish of as small as 10cc to as large as 30cc.

and that's based on what? have you tried it like I have? I'm also a professional automotive machinist. I try this stuff so I can be more knowledgeable for my customers. Flattops with Vortecs usually works, but they're 62cc, while LB9 heads are 55 cc. 11:1 with LB9 heads only works on E85 or race gas.
