I have a 88 IROC with a TPI 305 engine. The service manual says that the engine needs to have 5 qts of oil when you change it, with a filter change. When I changed my oil and filter the dip stick reads full at only 4 qts. And yes I have run the engine and waited a few minutes to check again. Now Im wondering if I have the correct dip stick and maybe its to long. So if you have this engine would you please go measure your dip stick for me? Measure from the top of the t handle to the tip of the stick.

Did you put any oil in the filter? I always do. Depending on who you ask it is not always necessary but I like to. This may account for the reading you are getting on the stick.

 

I did fill the filter prior to putting it on. After running the engine and letting it sit for awhile, the dip stick read "full". But I still have one quart of oil left in a 5 quart jug...............weird.

My dip stick measures 27 and 3/4 inches long.
