Cooling and curbs??

Okay first my car usually takes a while to warm up.in the mornings i drive to school about 5-10 miles away in 50 degree weather and typically my car would not even be completely warmed up by the time i get there. Approx 120 degrees.

I got cut off the other day and bounced off a curb. actually i got pushed up the curb and on the sidewalk. well i dont see anything wrong with any tie rods or anything and it drives straight and no more bouncy then it used to be. but i noticed my car is heating ALOT faster then it used to. It used to never make it to the median 220 mark and now it will after only a 10-15 mile trip in 75-80 degree weather.

The fan was also making alot of noise and wasnt working properly so i replaced the motor and it's still noisy but works better. What could be the problem? it also seems to be eating coolant. PLEASE HELP

oh, i hit the curb around 20 mph

Re: Cooling and curbs??

well it not warming up fast sounds like the thermostat is hung open

the fan is a pile of junk from the factory, get a good aftermarket eletric fan, that what i did, cools alot better

maybe your air dam got knocked off when you hit the curb, get on your hands and knees and check to see if its still there

a common leaking point is the thermostat housing, that could be your leak, maybe a pin hole in a hose, let its get to operating temp, leave it running pop the hood and look for small leaks, they will show up best at higher temps

some say 200 is not bad, i like to see mine as cool as possible, and plus with a tuned chip i run a 160 stat in it...... i just got an XX" fan from Jegs, not sure of the size now, but i know its the biggest one i could get on there

does your cap hold pressure?? its really not worth it to buy the thing to check it, they are a dime a dozen, try a new cap..... this is the best advise i can give with the info i got

i have no idea how to check if the cap is holding pressure. I had to wait a few hours just so the engine would be touchable again

its a tool for it, but dont worry about it, just try get a new cap, they are only about $5......i used to get the lever vent ones, but now i got a billet alum one since i got an all alum rad i would guess it would be $5-$7....like i said the lever vents are a little nicer since you can vent them

Re: Cooling and curbs??

I'll take a stab at this one....

Perhaps you have no thermostat or your thermostat is stuck open. In this case the coolant is flowing through the radiator from the get-go preventing your engine from getting to proper temp (not good). I've hit 2 curbs in my thirdgen, both times it knocked off my air dam. If yours got knocked off (as already mentioned by 89RS_82Z) you will have much less air flowing through your radiator at speed therefore significantly less cooling ability which lets your engine warm up faster. Even if your thermostat is working right, your engine will still heat up quicker I think with the air dam gone.

Did you have an air dam before? Do you have one now?

Re: Cooling and curbs??

I believe these guys are totally missing it. I believe you ripped the airdam that goes under the radiator. With it not there, cooling goes away. I've experimented with this on 3 different third-gens.
