how to go all motor and carb

okay maybe i didnt phrase the title right but, ive been meaning to take away the computer controls on my car and run it with a vacuum advanced distributor and a non-electrical carb. i have a bone stock setup and its been giving me so many problems latley, what do i need for this? obviously a new carb which i have, and a vacuum advanced distributor. but what about the transmission and anything else that will be affected while taking the computer away?

You will need the proper brackets to connect the tv cable to your carb. The geometry must be right or else you will destroy your trans. You will also have to have a FPR. Why not just fix whats wrong, instead of going backwards and lowering the value of your car?

seems easier than dealing with it, i already bought a new distributor replaced my coolant temp sensor, replaced all the vacuum lines with new ones, but to no end the car still runs and idles horribly

In the San Fernando Valley? You need a smog tech for a best friend. And never plan on selling the car, ever.

Yeah, how do you plan to pass the smog test? What you're suggesting is completely illegal in California and everywhere else in the United States on a street vehicle.

Check out the SoCal forum. We're having our SoCal Thirdgenners club meeting this Saturday in Lakewood.

Throwing parts at it is rarely a good way to go about fixing anything. Lay out what is wrong here and lets go from there. Start with a detailed description of car: Induction system, engine size, etc. Then tell us what its doing, with good description, and what you have done to it so far.

That's a good bit of advice right there.
The guys here know their stuff and have got me up and running with my project.
Good luck with whatever you decide with the car tho.

Re: how to go all motor and carb

Well the car idles irraticly one day it will idle high and one day it will idle low and unstable. when you drive the car it hesitates and if you floor it itll die out or catch up and haul-A$$

im currently only getting a code 44 and have replaced the oxygen sensor and distributor and coolant temp sensor, I also tested the egr valve and it checked out okay however their was no vacuum from the line going in to the egr valve when i pressure tested it, i used a vacuum diagram and mapped out that i correctly have all the lines in properly and replaced most of them, i did also break the diverter valve and piked one up from the junk yard to replace it, all spark plugs and cables are new as well

I did resently replace the heads as well like just before all this happened cuz of a blown head gasket

bad ecm? bad egr selinoid? bad valve job? or sumtin else? any ideas would help a great deal. sorry for the long post

If you recently replaced the heads you have to look back at everything that you have done to it. Timing, is a possiblity. With you getting a code 44 and replacing o2, it sounds to me more like a possible vacuum leak or some such issue. You can look around with a can of carb cleaner, spraying around the intake and whatnot, dont get carried away though, you dont need puddles, just some spray. Listen for a change in idle.
