Difference in 081 heads and 187 heads

Car: 90 iroc z
Engine: 350 needs work
Transmission: 700r4 needs work
Difference in 081 heads and 187 heads

Im looking at a 305 with the 187 heads on it. will these work with tuned port ?

Physically, either heads will work. But you probably want to know which would be more ideal. Hard to tell, as few people are familiar with which 305 heads had which casting number, beyind the 416 heads. Pull an intake valve from each head. Then don't use the heads with the so-called Swirl Ports. If neither pair have these ports, then it won't matter which pair you use.

081 is TPI heads, 187 is the TBI (swirl port) heads.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question.
Yes, the 187s will work. No, they are not ideal or even that good.

You cannot tell them apart by the valves, as both used 1.84"/1.50" valves. The only 305s to use the smaller 1.72" intake valves were the '76-'79 LG3.
