The head gaskets are the seal between the block and head. If you replace the heads, you will be replacing the head gaskets. They aren't reusable.

There is no "usual" for the price of heads. Many, many choices out there. Figure on at least $700-$800 for new, though. Aftermarket performance heads typically start in the $1200/pair range.

Re: new heads?

If it really needs it, you will have to replace the head gaskets. There is no easy fix. It's really not that bad. i would much rather change both my head gaskets than replace my oil pan gasket. The haynes manual will show you how to do this. DO NOT TAKE ANY SHORTCUTS! Follow the instructions exactly! I would just take your heads to a cylinder head shop. Much cheaper than buying new. Now if money is no object, sure, buy a set of AFR aluminum heads like mine (2500.oo) but you said you were on a budget. Did you ever do the pressure checks I told you to do? You may not have blown gaskets.

Re: new heads?

Oh, and 4th gen seats will bolt right in. if you see them and like them, get them. As far as engine parts, dont waste your time. Most of the parts are not interchangeable.

Re: new heads?

Vortech heads/manifold are cheap and a decent upgrade.

You can take the heads off, but they won't fit your engine.
