ZF 6 SPEED INTHIRD GEN?
WANTED TO KNOW IS THERE ANY WAY TO HOOK UP THE CORVETTE ZF 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION TO A STOCK BLOCK IN A THIRD GEN CAMARO?
Re: ZF 6 SPEED INTHIRD GEN?
The zf 6 speed will bolt up to the block no problem. You will, however, need to get a dual mass flywheel, and figure a way to mount the torque arm, and make a custom transmission crossmember.

www.SLPengineering.com may be able to provide some help, since they did this swap for GM back when they did the '91-'92 Firehawks.

Re: ZF 6 SPEED INTHIRD GEN?

The Firehawks were stock with a Gen I block & ZF6-speeds, so all the info needed to do it exists. Just a mstter of finding the info.
Either SLP or any of the the current Firehawk owners should be able to help you with that info.

One detail I do know is the rear mount for the ZF is farther from than the engine than on a T5.

Re: ZF 6 SPEED INTHIRD GEN?
slp said that they made a particular bellhousing to mate to the to the block, but is no longer available. hawks third gen say to use a t56 cause it easier but i seemingly would rather have a zf tranny. hawks also said to it is too much touble to put on a zf tranny into a tird gen car? what do i do??

Re: ZF 6 SPEED INTHIRD GEN?
Can i ask why you want to bolt in a ZF6? Not to say that its a bad trans or anything but it will be a big hassle if all you want is a 6 speed. The T-56 6 speed would be a much easier and probably cheaper way of going about it. Also if i all you want is a stick shift i recomend the tremic TKO 5 speed. They make a trans thats a "direct bolt in replacement" for the t-5 and is stronger than the t-56. It is only a 5 speed so if thats not what your looking for then no need looking into it but it would be a good choice if you have no preferance.

Unless you already have a ZF, the T56 is my vote, too. Way stronger, service parts are more available and far cheaper, etc. As for T56 vs TKO, you'll hafta decide.

Re: ZF 6 SPEED INTHIRD GEN?
You do NOT! need a dual mass flywheel for the ZF, it will be a lot more noisy but it's not absolutely needed. I have an normal flywheel and LT5 pressure plate & clutch in the S6-40 bolted to my 2pc main block. The dual mass only fits the 1 pc main, so I didn't have another choice.
The biggest problem I see is the sheer size, and especially the clutch slave. It's in a particular pesky location. Best option would be to swap to a hydraulic throwout bearing.
Another option would be to get an aluminum bellhousing, I think 89 came with those (mine is magnesiu, if you see it it clearly says "magnesium" on the casting), the alu one is a lot easier to modify for a repositioned slave, but still the throwout is the easiest way to do that (but costly)
This is the S6-40 in my Vette, look at how fricken huge it is. It is a lot larger than a TKO600 for instance. I cut out the floor to lower it and I will need to gift wrap an elephant with sheet metal to cover up the tranny.
