Car revs high and then stalls when switching to reverse, etc.
Hi guys,
Last week I noticed that my torque converter wasn't locking up at all when driving, and the car was shifting a little funny. At first I thought it was my tranny but I checked the fluid, and it was at the right level. I also had the fluid changed and tranny checked out recently...
Then I noticed that when I switch from Park to Reverse, or into Drive, the car revs really high, and then it drops down and stalls. It's doing this a lot now. I also noticed that when I'm idling with the AC off, the voltage will jump from about 10 to 14 and back and forth. So I'm figuring my torque converter lockup problem and shifting/idleing problem is electronic in nature. Am I on the right track? Has anyone every experienced something like this? I recently changed my spark plugs so I know they're good.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks.

Re: Car revs high and then stalls when switching to reverse, etc.
Okay, here's a little bit more info:
No bad computer codes. I also noticed that the car seems louder than normal while idle and driving. Is it possible that I'm driving in "Drive" instead of "Overdrive", even though the shifter says "Overdrive", and everything else seems aligned? If I am somehow driving in normal "Drive", would that cause the torque converter not to lock? Why would it shift really hard from park into reverse, or into drive? I vaguely remember this hard shifting happening a long time ago, (without the stalling or torque converter locking problem, though), and I think it was my tranny mount. But now I have polyeurethane (sp?), not rubber, so I doubt I have a bad mount as part of this problem. Plus when I had a bad mount before, it only shifted hard, it didn't raise and then drop the rpm's making me stall like it does now.
I'm still learning and could definitely use the help. Thanks!
