1986 Berlinetta v8 305 Wont Start
It was running fine so when me & my bud finally got out of seeing this horrible movie came out to the car and bam! It wont start! So I'm thinking dead battery, because it has given me that problem plenty of times..
So yea it wouldn't jump or anything...So finally I get someone to bring me to walmart and buy a new battery, well guess what? Still wouldnt even try to turn over, zero, zip, nothing! This was like at 2am grrr
Anyway finally got my car home the next day & yesterday had my starter tested, which was pain in the *** to remove, had to take the stupid exhaust off anway, it tested ok, so what do I do now?!
This electrical problem could be anywhere I'm sure =[

If it helps not all of the accesories work when the key is turned...The radio doesnt come on, the hazards etc wont come on, the only things that work are the horn, hatch lock, this little map light...

Start off checking all your fuses. If all are good use a test light to check the small wire at the starter to see if it gets power when you try to start it.

After that I would start tracing lines. Follow (if at all possible) the line to each item and see if it's fully intact. If that's too much work or isn't possible simply run a new line to the item and test to see if it works with that dedicated new line.
Also check the ground (usually a black wire, or simply a wire that terminates onto bare metal close by) and make sure it's not corroded or loose. Bad grounds can cause all sorts of problems, don't be afraid to reground a wire if in doubt.
A starter needs only two wires to start. A heavy gauge (thick) power wire usually red that runs directly from the battery to the starter. It also needs a small thin wire from the cabin to tell it to start. There is no ground for the starter, it grounds to the engine block through it's bolts. If the starter is good, the starter is getting good 12v power, and the small wire is sending a signal, the starter WILL start, no if ands or buts. Therefore simply check each item carefully and you will find the problem.
