Comp beehive spring installed height Qs

I am very excited that according to Carcraft i can drop in a set of comp 26918 or 26915 beehive springs into my vortec casting an instantly have 0.550" lift capabilities. I order to determine which springs best suit a GM lt4 HOT cam i need to know the height they will be installed at. I know that the stock vortec springs have a 1.700" installed height, but i am unsure if the behive retainers will change that (the 0.100 extra lift has to come from somewhere).

So i was wondering if anyone has used beehives in the past? Will the beehive specific retainers (comp 787) change the installed height realtive to the stock vortec retainers?

Re: Comp beehive spring installed height Qs

I have 26918 springs installed on my Vortecs.
Installed height; 1.820".
I've also had the heads machined for screw in studs and guide plates. The 1.6 Pro Magnum non guided rockers required the pushrods holes to be elongated as well.

thanks skinny, do you have stock length valves? If so thats good news, i won't have to hunt around for +0.100 valves.

Original valves. Except for one which I bent during a missed shift. (7000+)

You can also use Manley 22410-16 springs, 23652-16 retainers and get .550" lift with Vortec heads. They're not beehives but they might be less expensive. I used them just fine with my Corvette heads and LT4 hot cam.

does that mean you do not have to do any machining? IE spring seat and valve guides?

No machining required for springs seats or guides.

Link to Car Craft please. I have installed '918s and ARP 134-7101 studs. I know theres an increase in available lift, but I had no idea it was that much. If thats the case, that opens all kinds of doors for cam selection.

I got a package deal from comp themselves and run the 26918 beehives at 1.800 installed height and run an extreme fuel cam.....576./.571 lift and they work great...so those springs can handle over .550 lift....they are good to .600 lift according to comps web site!! http://www.compperformancegroupstore...&Category_Code=
