Rocker studs w/o hex base

I have a set of vortecs that i threaded for screw in studs and am looking for 7/16 studs without a hex base such that i dont need to have the tops of the stud pedestals machined down. I have heard rumors that they are available from pioneer but i cant seem to find anywhere that sells them. Summit sells 3/8 versions but no 7/16 studs.

Is anyone running 7/16 studs w/o hex bases? If so where did you find 'em?

Studs without hex base are press-in studs.
At any rate, screw-in studs without a hex base (that is if you find them) have nothing to do with machining the top of the valveguide.

You may be thinking about machining down the rocker pedistals for screw-in studs and guideplates. If you're wanting to upgrade to the larger 7/16" studs, then that is the correct procedure to do it. Then you will be using 7/16" studs with a hex base.

Valveguides and guide-bosses get machined in order to clear higher valve lifts and to fit aftermarket valvesprings and/or different valve-seals. It's a completely separate issue.

Lol, Sorry, that's a typo, should say "machining the stud pedestals". Screw in rocker studs w/o hex bases were used from the factory on 70s Z28s i think. Studs with hex bases require a machined seat that the press-in heads don't have. Heres an example of the 3/8 versions.

Re: Rocker studs w/o hex base

Mr Gasket makes them. 1076 is the PN I think, but they only come in the 7/16" base thread, 3/8"NF top thread. I don't think you can get them in a 7/16"NF top thread. Maybe though, since BB's used that size right? Check the MRG catalog.

I own the tool used to cut the studs down if you want to borrow it...I just used it in a 3/8" drill.
