If the car came with the 700R4 automatic (or any automatic for that matter) then no it will not have a pilot bearing or pilot bushing in the end of the crank. You will need to purchase one (pilot bearing is better since its roller bearings) and install it for use with a manual transmission.

You should only need to buy the bearing/bushing and insert it into the end of the crankshaft. I had to do this when I dropped my 350 from an auto truck into my T-5 Camaro.
Kevin91Z, where can one go to get a roller pilot bearing? When I went to the local parts store I showed them the mangled one I pulled from the 305 and they had no idea they existed and sold me a pilot bushing that was listed in their parts book. It fit, but I figured the bearing would be better.

Yes, all crankshafts have the hole, but only manual trans cars will have the pilot bushing in the end of the crank. You dont need to change the crank, just install a bushing or a bearing in there. I think I got a bearing from our local parts store, Parts Plus.
