Will my fan work if I do this?
I have an 87 Firebird with dummy lights and I want to install a water temperature gauge. The thing is if I remove the stock temp sending unit to install the other sender my fan will no longer work. Right? Is there any easy way to get around this problem? By the way the gauge is mechanical.

i installed an aux. temp. gauge in my previous 3rd gen. . i used the block drain hole/plug to install mine . i used the drivers side since it involved less routing of the temp. lead . on the lower part of the block , fwd. of the oil filter and 2-3 " above lip of oil pan . you will see a small pipe plug , remove plug install sensor . if if your block is like mine was there will be a build-up of rust scale & crud . poke hole with a screwdriver to clear scale . don't try it hot & be prepared for water to come out when you clear hole . worked for me . good luck .

The sender for the temperature gauge/light is separate from the sender for the radiator fan, so you should be okay.. The fan switch is on the passenger side head, close to the back.

Ok thanks. Both ideas sound good I didn't realize the senders were separate.

I found this thread after some more searching I think it answers my question pretty well.
