Broken Bolt

I broke a bolt in the intake manifold where the carb bolts down, tried to get it out with an easy out and that snapped inside the bolt, So I bought a new manifold, another bolt snappes, tried getting it out and it snapped inside the bolt AGAIN, I was wondering if there is any other option or way to get the bolt out because I really don't want to buy another manifold, because I just got this one, thanks in advance

Are you breaking these bolts off tightening them? I have never heard of someone having so much trouble with them, you may just have bad luck. In all honesty man, if you broke off an EZ out in it, its not good.

Re: Broken Bolt

If you cant get it out with an EZ out bring it to a machine shop and have take a look. My guess if you are breaking them is there might be some casting burs or something down there. What kinda bolts you using BTW?

Re: Broken Bolt

you might be using bolts that are too long and bottoming them out in the hole,What i've done is drill a pilot hole into the bolt with a drill half the size of the hole and then run the drill for that thread size and the use a tap for that thread size to clear out the rest of the hole and hopefully save the thread instead of using easy outs. If the easy out is stuck in the hole there is no way to drill it because easy outs are made of hardened steel and you will burn up drills instantly.your best bet would be to take it to a machine shop and have them mill it out.

Re: Broken Bolt

the carb is bolted down to like 10ft lbs or something SMALL. snug it up and you're done. If you're breaking bolts you're going wayyy too tight, ie. yes, the bolts are too long. I had to stack washers under two of my bolts because the blind holes are a really weird depth.

You can try heating the area with a torch, then shooting a can on compressed air in the bolt hole, and back it out... That is if you can grab it.
If not, a left handed drill bit *might* grab it out.

This is one of those things i'd leave it with a machine shop and tell them to remove it. Leave it up to their discretion on how...

Re: Broken Bolt

EZ outs should be illegal. They hardly ever work. The best solution is to center punch it, drill it out, and retap it. Once the EZ is broken off, it's game over. They are as hard as drill bits. A machine shop can get it out, but it will cost more than the manifold is worth.
