Cam bearing selection.

I am building a 383 and in the process of buying parts for it. I don't know what cam bearings to get. Cam is a hyd flat tappet.

I am pretty sure those are the right options to choose from. What would be the best choice?

Re: Cam bearing selection.

Unless you have your own cam bearing installation tool, just let the local machine shop install whatever bearings they have. Every automotive machine shop in America keeps a few sets of SBC cam bearings on their shelves.

I just had them installed when I had the block in for work. I supplied them with King Alecular Silicone to install- too easy to mess it up if you haven't done it before, and you have to have a cam bearing install tool.

I've been on both sides of the fence. Amateur like you, and now 9 years as a professional automotive machinist. I've met a few dumba$$ machine shop owners who couldn't install trick parts to save their lives, but 99.9% of us can do anything you can do better than you can do it.
You do need to use a dedicated tool, and you don't need King, Clevite works just fine, as does SpeedPro.

Re: Cam bearing selection.

Thanks for the advice on cam bearing install everyone. But I had no intention of doing it myself. Was just going to supply the bearings for the shop to install when the block work will be done.

Good call. I think my shop only charged about $30 to install the bearings. By the time you get done with baking/tanking, boring, honing, etc, it's just water under the bridge.
