been sitting 4 years
Ive boughtt a car thats been sitting for 4+years and was wondering if there is anything you all think I should check.
I put in a new battery and turned the key to see if it would crank and it did. I did not start it because I need to clean the gas tank.
Does anyone know of a somewhat easier way to clean the tank without dropping it?
Also I will change the oil in it as well.
If you know of anything else I should do before starting it just let me know.

I would check all the fluids and make sure that the seals didn't shrink and allow some of the fluids out. I would also keep a good eye on all the engine seals for the first 100 miles or so because after sitting that long they may have -for lack of better words- shriveled up.

Syphon it out and replace with new, add some seafoam or additive to help burn and mix the rest of the garbage sitting at the bottom of the tank.
My car has been sitting for 2 1/2 years with a full tank of 87 (first tank of 87 it ever saw its' whole life, I drove my car 3 miles to my house from his with it) so I plan to syphon out as much as possible then start running fuel additives for a couple of tanks. All better
If its ever stored add Sta-bil to the gas, and never store with an empty tank, easy way for moisture to build up.

Watch the brakes. Tires may be out of round, so inflate them to their maximum allowable pressure.
Change the oil ASAP after it has been running for few minutes unloaded.
Fill the tank about halfway with the lowest octane fuel you can find. Lower octane means higher volatility, adn most solvent power. Forget about additives for now. Plan on a fuel filter soon.
Drive it like a grandma for a while until you get a feel for how it is performing, and plan on changing all fluids.
Wheel bearings may be brinelled, and you may be replacing them if/when you replace brakes.
