Optispark Problems

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but I bought a 94 Camaro Z28. The optispark needs to be replaced. I had somebody tell me that I could do a conversion of some kind to get rid of the optispark completely. I am old school, so I am totally lost as what to do. Can somebody please send me in the right direction of what to buy and how much it will cost to do this? If I would have known this before I bought the car, I probably would not have bought it. I have NO idea what to get or who to get it from. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, the covergirl!

Re: Optispark Problems

'92-'94 opti-sparks are more troublesome than '95-'97, due to the poor venting of the earlier version. I had a '95 Z28 with nearly 140,000 trouble-free miles on the original opti. That was 3 years ago. then the car was stolen. But I digress, sorry. MSD Ignition makes a good opti-spark replacement, it is more money than trying to convert to the '95-'97 style, but less hassle. Trying to get rid of the opti is far more money and hassle than the MSD, and under 450 HP or 6500 rpm, is no advantage over the MSD. MSD is the giant in the automotive ignition industry for good reasons. Their stuff is excellent.
