starter issues

hey for any one who has an idea to fabricate a bracket for the starter on a 88 gta 350 5.7.
i had the first starter crack and the gear housing area and bought a new one. the one i bought was a valucraft(probably a bad mistake going cheap) then this morning that one crack. so i went to the parts store and got another one (i forget the brand but better than valucraft) i installed this one and so far so good. But the guy at the parts store made a call and i was told that on the foward part of the starter is a bolt the should go into a bracket. i looked and there is no spot that shows where a bracket should go. So i am wondering if this is going to be a big deal or can i just relax take it easy on the driving and fabricate a bracket? and where should i mount the bracket to. Thanks

Re: starter issues

Yes there is a mount on the back of the starter atleast on some. Its nothing too big just a a piece of heavy sheet mettal that goes from the back of the starter to the block. Although cracking the starter houseing is usually the result of timing too advanced anf the motor fireing against the starter.

Re: starter issues

Thanks,
I got a better starter and no issues thus far but thank you for the advise and next time i am under there i will look for any signs of a bracket spot. a friend said 90 percent of the cars he has worked on were just held up by the two mounting bolts and that is all. talk to you again i am sure.
