TPS voltage ....backwards????

Hey there, yes I did a search already....but have a different question.
The voltage on a TPS sensor is supposed to be read as follows, and please correct me if I'm wrong:
Key on, put postive probe on middle wire of connector, and bottom wire is ground, at idle the voltage is supposed to be .5v and WOT is supposed to be 4.2v.

Now my question is I check my camaro the same way....but got 4.2v at idle and about .5v at WOT...The car runs good with no check engine light and everything seems normal.....but is this right??? let me know if you can help......thanks in advance.

Re: TPS voltage ....backwards????

pretty sure I was putting the positive on the top wire and the negative on the middle wire to adjust mine..

Re: TPS voltage ....backwards????

I can confirm, you measure the voltage across A and B. I would set the TPS at 0.60 V for idle, and the full throotle voltage will come out to be whatever it can reach. It should be at least 4.0 V.

Re: TPS voltage ....backwards????

sweet, I will try that then....top wire positive at .60v and middle wire is ground....I didn't have a check engine light on but wanted to be sure.....

one more question though.......this is a spare TPS sensor I had sitting around....the one that was on my car had no slots for adjustment, it was a self zero-ing so to speak, this new one has slots on it for adjustment....is it the computer that self zeros or it the type of sensor....both sensors are from camaro's of course, but two different part numbers, I'm suspecting different years but everything seems to be working okay.

Re: TPS voltage ....backwards????

the adjusting TPS is for MAF controlled TPI's ('85-'89), your non-adjusting is for speed density TPI's.

Re: TPS voltage ....backwards????

ECM reads the TPS on startup whatever is lower the old reading, or the new one will be the new zero reference.

But, if you put an ajustable TPS you need to set at .6 volts.

I'm assuming it's okay to use a '85-'89 adjustable MAF TPS on my car which is speed density, as long as I have the sensor adjusted correctly??
