Fuel Leak

I'm at my wits end and hope someone here can help. I recently had GM honor the gas tank recall on my 92 T/A. I ordered a Spectra OEM tank which GM installed it free of charge. Since the new tank has been installed gas has been coming out of the tank through the cap, dripping down the fender. I've triple checked that the cap was tight and have even tried a new cap. Of course, the same thing happens. Doesn't matter if the tank is full or empty.

I took it back to GM today and they checked and said they can find no reason for the fuel coming out. Mech says he did a pressure test and said the pressure was dropping. I'm not sure I believe that, it makes no sense to me since it would take pressure build up to push the fuel past the cap.

Any ideas? I'm thinking of calling the company that I bought the tank from, but of course you know they will not pay for the labor of uninstalling and installing a replacement tank.

Any ideas would be most appreciated!!!!

Re: Fuel Leak

Sure no problem. If you go to http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov you can search for campaign number 94V077000 here's the summary
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 94V077000 Summary: THE FUEL FILLER NECK SOLDER JOINT CAN DEVELOP CRACKS OR PIN HOLE LEAKS, WHICH DOES NOT COMPLY WITH FMVSS NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY." THE CRACKS AND HOLES CAN ALLOW FUEL VAPOR AND FUEL LEAKAGE. Consequence: CONSEQUENCE OF NON-COMPLIANCE: GASOLINE VAPORS AND FUEL LEAKS CAN RESULT IN A FIRE IF EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION. Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY AND REPLACE THOSE WHICH EXHIBIT THE CRACKS OR PIN HOLE LEAKS.
