advice needed on timing
If i unplug my wire on the firewall that you set the timing with my car runs perfect, but if i set my timing then plug it up, it gets to idle crazy then stalls out, starts right back up then stalls again?

Re: advice needed on timing
What are you setting the timing at?
What is the correct setting?
8 degree's BTC is what I can see.
Other than that..how did the car run before you re-set the timing?
Maybe something in the ecm or a component that controls fuel/air ratio?

Re: advice needed on timing
six or eight degrees isn't that big of a difference. I added a few more questions to my first post. I think you might have a problem with the air/fuel sensors, or the computer not advancing the timing. There should be some other guys that can tell you what the advance should be at idle with the wire plugged in. Depending on the size of your harmonic balancer you should be able to figure out where you should be at.

there is no check engine light on or any codes. if it was a sensor id get a code right? and i just replaced the ecm, maf, maf relays, tps, coil, module, iac, all this week. what does the esc module that bolted to the firewall next to the brake booster do? Do you think this could be causing it?

that old obd system has problems telling you when things are failing, only when they have died off. I think?

Re: advice needed on timing
Ive googled the crap out of this and is seems to point me towards a worn out pick up in the distributor. I guess i will swap it out tommorrow. I have a spare one out of a 89 tbi 350, I think there the same
